Title and Description:

Draft Recovery Plan for the Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus) - Revision

NMFS finalized a recovery plan for the blue whale in 1998, and in 2012 indicated its intent to update the plan. This draft revised recovery plan summarizes the best available information on blue whale natural history and the known and potential threats to the species. The document also describes a recovery strategy to address the potential threats and includes recovery goals and criteria. Once finalized, the plan will be used to direct U.S. activities and to encourage international cooperation to promote the recovery of this endangered species.
