PMEL Tsunami Forecast Series: A Tsunami Forecast Model for Point Reyes, California
NOAA’s tsunami forecast system combines numerical models with deep-ocean tsunami amplitudes observed at DART locations during tsunami propagation to produce estimates of tsunami wave arrival times, amplitudes, and coastal inundation. The Point Reyes, California forecast model is one in a series of 75, each developed for integration into the NOAA tsunami forecast application for real-time forecast during a tsunami event. This report documents development of the Point Reyes model, including rigorous testing and validation with historic and synthetic tsunami events.
