The Messaging Operations Center (MOC) is the formally implemented and organized technical operations group who, under the guidance of the Messaging Configuration Board, manage the NOAA Enterprise Messaging System (NEMS). This includes the top level directory services, enterprise-wide news and calendar services and the infrastructure for distribution of email messages entering NOAA from the Internet. This is done on 30 servers at the three major NOAA campuses in Silver Spring, Seattle and Boulder. They also provide technical support for local NEMS email and directory administrators. The MOC is a part of the Enterprise Networking and Server Division of the IT Operations Office.
Messaging Configuration Board (MCB) is a committee of senior IT managers representing each of the Line Offices. The MCB’s function is to provide design guidance and oversight of the messaging architecture for NOAA as a whole. The MCB operates under the direction of the NOAA CIO Council and was designated by the NOAA Administrator.
