A list of deaf organizations



A little bit of history. In the 1980s and 1990s there was a bulletin board especially designed for the deaf. It not only operated by using ASCII, but also Baudot, an earlier telecommunications standard that was employed by the deaf in TDY,. It contained disability news and provided the deaf with email which because of the high cost of computers during this period, was not available to many people with a hearing impairment. The coding for the system was done by Dick Barth, a Department of Commerce cmployee, during his free time.
